University Lutheran Church and Student Center
From Pastor Jay

On July 22nd, 2007, three years ago exactly today - I was ordained as pastor at University Lutheran.  And on that day, District President Gerhard Michael said this blessing: "The Lord Jesus pour out on you His Holy Spirit for this office and work, that you may faithfully preach the Gospel and administer the sacraments, Amen." (video link).

I think every Lutheran pastor hears those words of blessing with a sense of utter thankfulness --- I'm not in this alone, I've got the Lord Jesus, I've got His Holy Spirit.

But I have to tell you, I got a bonus.  I don't think every pastor got what I got.  I know they didn't.  I got something special, something different and unique and so amazing.

I got University Lutheran.  I got you.

I got your prayers and support.  I got that intimate relationship that we have between Christians.  I got that mysterious connection which allows me, through your call, to serve as the one who gives you God's Word and His sacraments.  I got your foibles and sins...and you got mine, and together we received that ministry of reconciliation through Christ's life and work.  I got so much.

I give thanks to God for all of His gifts to me - but today especially, I thank Him for that great gift He gave me in knowing and serving you.  Thank you, University Lutheran.  Thank You, Lord.

Good Stuff
One Sunday a cowboy went to church. When he entered, he saw that he and the preacher were the only ones present.

The preacher asked the cowboy if he wanted him to go ahead and preach. The cowboy said, "I'm not too smart, but if I went to feed my cattle and only one showed up, I'd feed him."

So the minister began his sermon. One hour passed, then two hours, then two-and-a-half hours. The preacher finally finished and came down to ask the cowboy how he liked the sermon.

The cowboy answered slowly, "Well, I'm not very smart, but if I went to feed my cattle and only one showed up, I sure wouldn't feed him all the hay..."
