From the President
Dear families, friends, and members of University Lutheran,

It surely was great to see so many of you last Sunday.  I am very comforted to be among so many believers and friends.

In order to take advantage of significant Physical Therapy opportunities, Pastor Dohrman has moved from Moffitt Cancer Center North to the Home Association. The address is: Tom Dohrman, 1203 E.22d Ave., Room 114, Tampa, FL 33605.  Cards and phone calls are welcome. However, there is no phone in his room, so please call his cell phone (850.443.7588).

We keep Pastor Dohrman, Cheryl Dance, Scott Diestelhurst, Wayne and Paula Smith, Deb Buenrostro's father, and others in our prayers, as they battle various injures and diseases.  May God's healing powers help and sustain them during these difficult times.

Thank you to all of you who responded so readily to my plea for help with the sound system and setting up the communion elements.  We look forward to your kind participation in these important tasks of our church service.

I also would like to thank all of you who have helped so much during these times, when Pastor has not been able to do everything.

  • Mary Hafner, who has helped with the bulletins;
  • Andrew, who has run the bulletins on time;
  • Crystal, Randee, and Danielle who have kept the Wednesday evening devotions and dinners going;
  • Adam Brink who has played so beautifully and has had to "step in" so to speak, when some of our visiting pastors are not sure about our liturgy;
  • Bethany, who has done a great job as choir director;
  • Conrad and Brenda who keep our church tidy;
  • And Jim Freeman, who has taken over so many of the responsibilities that are necessary to keep our church vibrant;
  • All of you who have been so generous with bringing snacks on Sunday mornings;
  • those who have set up the communion elements thus far;
  • those who keep the grounds and the outside of our church neat and tidy;
  • and all of you who have been so faithful by being there on Sunday mornings.

Please, forgive me if I have left anyone out.  My memory is not always the best.

If you are in town this Sunday morning, please join us for worship at 11.  Hope to see you then.

God's blessings,
Elsa McKinney

Congratulate two extremely talented women of our church
Miranda Dohrman, who had her Masters recital on Tuesday.  The performance was extraordinary.  I did not know that the clarinet could sound like that.  Miranda, congratulations on an exceptional performance.  We wish you God's blessings, as you pursue your career which seems to be well on the way.

Miranda, the newest member of the Pandean Players Chamber Ensemble, is also Principal Clarinet of the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra. Miranda served as Principal Clarinet with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, the Augusta Opera Orchestra, and the Augusta Choral Society last season. Miranda received both her Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree from Florida State University, where she performed with the faculty chamber ensemble in the Kaleidoscope Series. Miranda can be heard on the Nonesuch Record Label performing with the new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound, and she has performed with the Greenville, Albany, and Tallahassee Symphony Orchestras.

Listen to Miranda in Chappell Kingsland’s “Mental Picnic”
Marsupial Dreams - for woodwind quintet (1999-2001) [4:36] - Rachel Roberts, Emily Caltvedt, Miranda Dohrman, Amy Lange, Maria Harrold

We thank you for having played for us over the years; you are always welcome to play for us.

And the very talented Rosemary Ferguson
Rosemary is a member of the prestigious National Watercolor Society.  Last Friday evening, she had an opening of some of her work at the LeMoyne Art Foundation.  Her paintings are extraordinarily beautiful.

This painting, Festival Palm, placed two in the 2006 18th Tri-State Juried Water Media Exhibition at the LeMoyne Art Foundation. CLICK TO ENLARGE

At the Mid-South Watercolorists 2006 Annual Exhibition, the beautiful, Three of a Kind received the Helen Kerr Newcombe Memorial Award. CLICK TO ENLARGE

I invite all of you, who can to visit the gallery and view Rosemary's work.  Congratulations, Rosemary.  You are indeed a very talented painter.
