SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TO CONSIDER EXTENDING A CALL FOR A NEW PASTOR TO SERVE UNIVERSITY LUTHERAN CHURCH AND STUDENT CENTER SUNDAY, APRIL 1, 2007 FOLLOWING WORSHIP Come, be a part of this great privilege. From the President Dear friends, members, and families of University Lutheran, Thank you to all of you who have attended the council meeting on Sunday, the Call Committee on Tuesday, and the meeting with Pastor Fairow on Wednesday. Between you and me, that is a lot of meetings. However, here at University Lutheran we are definitely going through a time of change and we do need to get together to talk and to mull things and ideas over, thus all of these meetings. The best news that I have is that Pastor Dohrman is doing extremely well. He will, God willing, go home on Tuesday. He has been away from home for a long time and he is very excited about the prospect of being in his own home. He is going to need our help, what with food, driving him to appointments, just being there for and with him. I will keep you posted as to how you can help. Speaking of meetings and great news, please mark your calendars for the congregational meeting on April 1st, when we will explore the call to Candidate Jay Winters to be our pastor, when Pastor Dohrman retires. He is known as a candidate until his graduation later on this spring. The Rev. Dr. Gerhard Michael, the president of our district, the Rev, Earl Steffens, the circuit counselor of our district, and Pastor Dohrman have each told me individually that they are in favor of extending a call to Pastoral Candidate Jay Winters to be our next pastor. Hope you will be there on April 1st, and no, this is not an April Fools joke. On March 31st, Scott and Lura Diestelhorst will be on the Spanish krewe in the Springtime Tallahassee parade. Please wave to them as you enjoy all of the festivities and activities of Springtime Tallahassee. If you are in town this Sunday, please join us for worship on Sunday at 11 a.m., as we continue on our Lenten journey to Easter, when we commemorate our Lord Jesus' victorious resurrection. I would love to see all of you then. God's blessings, A Look at the Lessons This is an informal group of lively, heartfelt, meaningful, practical application, open sharing and exchanges on specific Bible passages featured for that Sunday's sermon, found in the church bulletin's "Celebrate" section. It is enriching and enhances the Sunday's service for all. All are welcome each Sunday morning at 10:15 in front of the fireplace.UUU A private screening of Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ will be held at University Lutheran Church and Student Center on Thursday, March 29th at 5:30 p.m. Please email Crystal if you interested in attending this screening and for more information. Bethany Kiral as Dona Anna in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni It is absolutely amazing what you will find when you do a search on the internet. I went looking for a photo or announcement about our Choir Director's role in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni and look what came up. The number 1 item (of 44) returned by Yahoo is the ULC News from University Lutheran Church and Student Center. OK, so that is no big deal... but this is: Good Stuff Peer Ministers to attend Spiritual Dinner Dialogue Crystal Berner and Randee Garrett are representing University Lutheran at a dinner dialogue focused on spirituality and our FSU community. This dialogue is an outgrowth of current information about our incoming students points to their increased desire to seek out spiritual discussions and recent brown bag conversations within the Division of Student Affairs on the role of spirituality on our campus; and in partnership with the FSU Campus Ministry Association and FSU's Student Life Film Committee, The Presbyterian University Center is hosting a director’s screening of “The Power of Forgiveness” at the Student Life Cinema at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 5th. |
