Dear Members and Friends of University Lutheran,

Greetings in Christ! The past few weeks have been amazing for me. I have been filled with joy and thanksgiving from the moment that I heard “University Lutheran,” during the call service until now only a few days before I get to meet many of you in person.

I have keenly desired to meet all of you and have been praying for you as individuals and as a congregational community whole. I have been waiting with great anticipation to be able to see your faces and for us to get to know each other.

In order to help this process along, I thought it might be helpful for you to get to hear a little bit about me.

I was born as a “missionary brat,” in San Fernando, La Union, the Philippines. While in the Philippines my father served as a missionary and executive for the Philippine Lutheran Hour. We moved to St. Louis when I was almost 13 where I attended 7th and 8th grade as well as high school. When I graduated from high school I entered Concordia University, Seward Nebraska. After graduating from Concordia with a B.A. in English, I turned my sights to another Concordia, closer to home, Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. During my time at the seminary I was able to experience not only growth in knowledge, but growth in my own personal faith life. I began to be interested in campus ministry and did my vicarage in Gainesville as a Lutheran campus minister for the University of Florida. While I was there I met my girlfriend Liz Smith, who will undoubtedly be popping in from time to time. Returning to St. Louis, I have had the opportunity to grow even more in the academic setting while looking forward to my ministry amongst you all. Life for me has been a thing filled to the brim with God’s grace and care, and I am looking forward to what He has in store for us together.

I will be in Tallahassee during the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of June and will be preaching on the 3rd at University Lutheran. I hope to see many of you then. My ordination and installation service will be July 22nd. I am truly looking forward to that event in which I give myself to you all and to Christ as a servant of the Word.

in Christ,
Jay Winters UUU

Summer student housing still available

University Lutheran Church and Student Center offers semi-private campus living for up to four students each semester. We offer very reasonable semester rates, high speed cable, cable TV, access to piano and organ, and plenty of quiet study space. We do not offer any of the usual distractions like a swimming pool, weight room, sauna, basketball court, tennis court, PETS, or wild parties.  If you are a serious student and don't want to "break the bank" with dorm expenses, please email the ULC President for additional information. NOTE: This is not a co-ed facility and occupancy may be dependent upon gender. UUU
