From Pastor Jay
I have been calling
it my Matthew 25 week. Matthew 25 contains two parables and a
prediction/parable about the coming judgment of the world. In
that chapter, Jesus speaks of feeding, clothing, giving shelter, and
visiting people.
These things are happening around here this week. It's kind of a
pain. I'm already behind this week because I took a day to
reflect on my past year and try to plan for the next one.
Although it may sound a little ridiculous, this week I would really
rather go about my normal routine - the routine that I've grown
accustomed to after a year of this ministry.
Helping people is great and all, but it gets a little annoying when my
to-do list has several items like: "visit the local jail," "play phone
tag with
several different agencies to keep someone from becoming homeless," and
a few other "Matthew 25" things that have been put on my plate by the
Almighty.
Talking to Liz last night, I said, "You know, Jesus can be really
irritating sometimes...I'm sure His disciples felt the same way."
Every time they thought they had Him figured out, every time that they
thought they knew exactly what was going on - He upped the ante or
changed something or revealed something new.
During my day of reflection, I decided that I was going to change my
schedule around a little bit. Nothing drastic - but a few small
changes in my schedule to keep me from getting too comfortable with the
status quo. God seems to have seconded that motion with the stuff
that He's given me to do this week. He has given me some changes
I didn't count on, and that's ok. He knows that I will say "thank you"
for them, although I may not say "thank you" right away. I might
be irritated for a little while.
I got the chance to say thank you today looking into the eyes of a two
week old baby boy. I was acting on your behalf, you have
the chance to say thank you today as well. God threw me a curve
by
a phone call that I received last night here at church from a lady
named Diane. Diane and her kids, a two week old baby boy, and
twins that are each 17 months old, were
going to be out on the street at 11am this morning unless something was
done, unless somebody's schedule got changed, unless somebody got a
little irritated.
Diane and her three children are safe today. They are safe
because of you. Your trust and support for this church allowed
this Body of Christ to reach out and change the world for Diane and her
children.
Jesus reached into your life and made a change in you. If you
read the Gospels, you find that it sounds like He was annoyed with us
part of the time. He changed His schedule around so that He could
live amongst us. We ended up nailing Him to a cross.
"Annoyed" doesn't begin to describe it.
But Jesus knew that a change had to be made. Jesus knew that in
order for you to be safe, something had to be reconfigured
drastically. He took it on cheerfully, gladly, and without any
sense of annoyance or irritation. He took it on because it was
going to change our world, because it was going to change your
world. And it has, it is yours only to say "thank you," into His
loving eyes.
In
Christ,
Pastor Jay
