From Pastor Jay

Greetings in the name of our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ!

The Apostle Paul begins his letter to the church at Colossae with these words, "We always thank God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ when we pray for you," and I can think of no better way to begin this first newsletter.  I truly have so much to thank the Lord for, and I want you to know that I have been thanking Him so much for His Love shown through you all.  The ordination service was so wonderfully put together!  Everything that you all did helped me to celebrate this great day in my life.  Thank you!  I will always remember that day in my prayer life and will always remember you all in my thanksgiving for it.

I look forward to learning about many of you and having so many conversations with you.  I also look forward to seeing for myself how this community of University Lutheran goes about its life as a living and breathing part of the Body of Christ.

I have been getting settled into the office, trying to figure out where things are, and learning things like how the bulletin is put together, how the newsletter is sent out, and many other things.  My prayer is that you might be a little patient with me while I figure some of these things out.  I also pray for boldness on your part for my sake.  Please, if you see something that I am not doing that I should be, let me know!  You won't hurt my feelings at all.

This upcoming Sunday's readings are about prayer.  I recommend that you keep at least one of these prayers in mind: Thanksgiving for the ministry of Pastor Dohrman in this place, Comfort for the Buenrostros as they have experienced illnesses and a death in their extended family, for your new pastor that he might have peace in learning this new job, for the Culps who are recovering and homebound, for Sandra and Sarah (Pastor Jay's downstairs neighbors) as they consider hospice care, and for the whole of God's Church on earth.

I will be praying for the congregation everyday that I am in the office as a part of my vocation.  If you have any prayer requests, please send them to pastor@universitylutheranchurch.org or call me at 850 224 6059.  Please do let me know if you would like me to keep your prayer private or to invite the congregation to join in prayer about it on Sunday.

In Christ!
Pastor Jay UUU

Make a difference - Send the Buenrostros to National Youth Gathering '07!

Barna Research, a Christian societal research firm, recently released the results of one of its latest polls.  The findings explained that only 2 per cent of youth find themselves deeply involved in faith by the time they arrive their college years.

You have an opportunity to help our own Buenrostro family stand up against that disappointing statistic.

The Buenrostros have had to travel quite a bit lately because of illnesses and a death in the family.  Anything that you can give towards sending them to the Youth Gathering would be appreciated.

There will be an envelope available in your bulletins this Sunday for donations. UUU

A Change In Plans

Pastor Dohrman's retirement party is postponed and will be celebrated at his retirement "tailgate party" on August 4 at University Lutheran.UUU

Student reception set for August 25

A special reception for new and returning students to Tallahassee is to be held at University Lutheran Church and Student Center following worship on August 25.

The reception, to begin at 12:15, will be a time of fellowship and rejoicing as we continue friendships from the last school year and meet new friends just coming on campus. UUU

Good Stuff

Prayer does not demand that we interrupt our work, but that we continue working as if it were a prayer.
