"It is
better to be told, 'Come up here," than to be put lower in the presence
of a noble.'" (Proverbs 25:7).
Although wisdom probably advises against it - I will let you know
something deep and personal about myself. I am a Jimmy Buffett
fan. I own something like 32 Jimmy CD's.
Jimmy Buffett has a great song called "Gypsies in the Palace" that is
all about two of his friends who he asks to house sit for him while
he's out on tour. I think I would have picked other people.
One of them remains nameless throughout the song, but his buddy is
named "Snake."
The song goes on to talk about a grand party that Snake and his buddy
throw in Jimmy's absence. However, soon Jimmy gives his house a
call to tell him that he's coming back to town early. Snake and
his nameless buddy have to break up the party and they end up looking
like the real losers that they are.
Even though our reading from Proverbs for this upcoming week (Proverbs
25:6-7) tells us that it's better to be humble about our place before
people and before God, we don't always take the advice. It is
pretty easy to want to put on airs and assert ourselves into places
that we maybe don't belong.
Our place as sinners before God makes us "Gypsies in the Palace."
We don't belong in the house of God because of anything that we do
ourselves. We should be struck down by lightning for even
thinking about going into a church.
Yet Jesus wants us to sit by Him in Eternity. He wants that so
badly that He died on a cross and rose again. From His throne in
heaven He says "Come up here," to the place of honor amongst men.
We're no longer gypsies in the palace. We're princes and
princesses of the Lamb.
In Christ,
Pastor Jay

Thank You for Bringing a Dish
Thank
you to everyone who brought a dish on this past Sunday for the potluck
style Student Reception. It was a hit. A special thank you
to students without kitchens who willingly brought in their mother's
home baked cookies. (Really, it happened.) You have truly
shown the community and the hospitality that every church should be so
blessed with - you have shown Christ's love in your actions.

Good Stuff
I
believe in Christianity as I believe the Sun has risen: not only
because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
