From Pastor Jay I turned the show off after the third saccharine sweet love song I heard. Some songs all sound the same. But they don’t sound the same to every person. You know what I’m talking about if you have a favorite song. That song speaks to you in a way that it probably doesn’t speak to everyone else. The same thing happens with Psalms. This upcoming week we’re reading Psalm 113. It’s called a Pilgrim Song – it’s short and catchy if you read Hebrew. It evokes the picture of Hannah, the mother of Samuel who was barren but then God gave her a child. There is someone who is a part of this community who is having a baby. This Psalm probably speaks to her in ways that it will never speak to me, and that's ok. Psalms are songs, and just like any song that you hear on the radio – some will speak deeper and harder into your soul than others will. Take some time, read a Psalm or two – they’re all pretty short except for 119. Find the one that speaks into your heart the loudest. Read it out loud. Try singing it. Do whatever but let God speak to you with that Psalm. Let Jesus speak to you with that Psalm. Alot of Psalms sound the same at first, but when you find that one that speaks directly to you - it'll be the theme song for the rest of your life. In Christ, Pastor Jay Clear Your Calendars! Bob Wagner - 850 878 4071 Paul Hoover - 850 926 5332 Some of you may be asking, why should I contact the elder and what for? And exactly what IS an elder anyway? The Elders at University Lutheran are people who are charged with the spiritual care of the pastor and the congregation. They serve by helping the pastor out with visits when he cannot make them. They pray for the pastor and for the congregation. They are considered "undershepherds" of the congregation and look after people within the congregation. In extreme cases, they may do other things that the pastor might normally do (for example, they may read a sermon to the congregation in the case of an absent pastor or pastor struck suddenly ill). With all of that said, I hope that none of you have an emergency while I am gone - but if you do, please contact your elders.
