From Pastor Jay

The spam emails and junk mail that I receive as a pastor are interesting sometimes.  I recently received a spam email from a company trying to sell "Limousines and Yacht Cruises."

What surprised me is that this ad was specially geared for pastors and church workers.  They even have "special corporate packages that allow churches to set a monthly amount."

Perhaps THIS will be the newest thing in outreach and evangelism - sending limousines to pick people up for church. We could celebrate at the end of the year with a yacht cruise.  Do you think it would get more people here if we did that?

Yet somehow I don't think that's what Jesus had in mind when He instituted the church.  I think He probably thought more about ten Samaritan lepers who needed to be healed.  He probably thought more about believers like Timothy and Paul who were chained like criminals just so they could speak the Gospel to one more person.  I think that's the kind of church Jesus had in mind.

The ladies of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League are a part of that church. They put aside limousines and yacht cruises, and they reach out to the poor and to those who haven't heard the Gospel.  We celebrate God working in their lives this coming Sunday.

And every Sunday, we try to become more like the kind of church Jesus had in mind until He returns to give us a divine yacht cruise for eternity.

In Christ,
Pastor Jay

LWML Sunday

October 14th is LWML Sunday.  Some of you may wonder what LWML is.  LWML stands for Lutheran Womens' Missionary League.  It is an organization that seeks to affirm women's relationships with the Triune God so that they are equipped and enabled to use their gifts in ministering to other people.

Our chapter of LWML has chosen to host a gift drive for a family that they have adopted as a part of LWML Sunday.

Please consider dropping any of the following items off at church before October 14th:
Jeans, boys size 7-8
Jeans, girls size 4-6
girls shoes, size 91/2
Mom is a size 10-12
Groceries and paper goods, gift cards for groceries or gas would also be
appropriate.

Want to learn more about Scripture?  Thinking about church work?

Concordia House of Studies, the Florida-Georgia District's program to train people with the kind of classes that you would get in the Concordia University System is thinking about coming to Tallahassee.

Possible classes include:  Lutheran Confessions (Book of Concord), Old Testament History and Literature, New Testament History and Literature, and many others.

These classes could transfer into FSU as general credits.  These can also be used to qualify for church worker training. Please consider emailing Pastor Jay for more information.
