Prayer List
(Please consider including the following in your prayer life this week)

The Diestelhorsts as they await their coming child.

All those who seek God's comfort in times of marital stress.

Refreshing of our souls through connection with Scripture and faith through Grace.

Blake Kandzer who awaits word on recent tests.

Thanksgiving for the example of the Lutheran reformers, that we may continue to live our lives reforming ourselves with God's Word.

Those who mourn the passing of a grandparent, especially Tanya Skura and Danielle Brant.

Thanksgiving for the work of Pastor Tom Dohrman.

Rachel Somers whose grandfather is in ill health.

Terry Johnston, who has full blown AIDS, that Christ may comfort him in these last days on earth before the Resurrection.

That God's law may become known to those who ignore His law written on their hearts and have turned away the poor and destitute.

That the Gospel of Jesus Christ be preached in purity and may release all of mankind from the grip of sin and death.

...and that our prayers may be joined with the prayers of all God's saints here on earth.

From Pastor Jay

When the Lutheran reformers marched in to defend the Augsburg Confession, they wore armbands on their sleeves.  On these armbands there was a cross and the letters V D M A.  These letters stood for "Verbum Dei Manet In Aeternum," which means "The Word of God Abides In Eternity."

In our Gospel lesson for Reformation Sunday, Jesus tells His disciples that in order to truly be His disciples, they had to "abide in My Word."

Abiding in God's Word is a significant thing.  It doesn't mean just reading the Word or hearing the Word, although that is where it starts.  It doesn't mean just doing the things that you find in God's Word, although that is one the things that you should really want to do after bumping up against God's Word.  It means that you are living in God's Living Word.

That Living Word is with you on bad days and good days.  It is with you when you feel like your life is falling apart.  It is with you when you question your own faith, and it brings you back like a comforting mother or friend.  It is with you when you are so positive about your faith that you strut around like a little leaguer after his or her first home run.

Martin Luther went through many tests and trials during the Lutheran Reformation.  Some of those days he must have felt like the sky was falling down.  Other days he must have felt like God's own outlaw prince.  Still, every day of his life, Luther knew what we know today - that God's Word Abides in Eternity with each of us because that Word is Jesus Christ.

In Christ,
Pastor Jay

Good Stuff

At the end of his life, Martin Luther had written over 60,000 pages, yet is quoted as saying "I wish they would all disappear and people would just read the Holy Scriptures."
