From Pastor Jay

"When are you ever going to learn?"  I can't even begin to count the times that I've felt God saying that into my ear.

Sometimes it is an angry voice, frustrated with my sin and lack of faith.  It growls in my ear, it's baritone seeming to reverberate through my soul - "When are you ever going to learn?"

Sometimes it seems like it is an almost amused voice, like that of a parent watching a 2 year old begin to walk only to fall down.  A staccato chuckling: "When are you ever going to learn?"

Sometimes it is a tearful voice, pleading with me to stop hurting myself and others.  Paused between sobs it asks, "when are you ever going to learn?"

Then there are days like today, when it speaks to me out of the words of Song of Songs 7, "I am my Beloved's, and His desire is for me."  When will I ever learn those words and that He speaks them to me not just today, but every day and every second of my life?

When will I ever learn that His cross tells me the story of His desire to make me His beloved son?

I am my Beloved's.  His desire is for me.

I will learn, Lord Jesus.  Help me learn this.

+ What are the different ways and times that God has asked you "when are you going to learn"?
+ What gets in the way of seeing yourself as God's beloved?
+ Are there activities you could engage in that would reinforce that God's desire is for you?

In Christ,
Pastor Jay

Shoesgiving is coming!
Last year University Lutheran was able to raise 66 pairs of shoes for underprivileged people both here in the United States and worldwide through our Shoesgiving meal.  This year we want to raise 75.

In conjunction with New Member Sunday, we will be hosting an early Thanksgiving meal at University Lutheran after church on November 22nd.  Please start scanning your closet now – we need new or gently used shoes to donate.

Good Stuff

Revivals aren't always about gaining people....

In a sleepy little town in Florida, three of the local churches decided that they would pool their resources and have a revival. After the revival had concluded, the three pastors were discussing the results with one another:
The Methodist minister said, "The revival worked out great for us! We gained four new families."
The Baptist preacher said, "We did better than that! We gained six new families."
The Presbyterian pastor said, "Well, we did even better than that! We got rid of our 10 biggest trouble makers!"
