Prayer List
(Please consider including the following in your prayer life this week)
All God's saints who have passed
on and all of the saint-sinners here in this life.
Dave Stellman who is diagnosed recently with Lou Gehrig's disease.
All veterans of any military branch who have seen the horrors of war
and the end result of hatred amongst men, that they may find peace in
their souls.
Leaders who serve us by pushing us to make this world a better place.
A healthy pregancy for Sammy Miller.
Everyone beginning a new faith journey in the Formations class leading
toward Confirmation.
Continued thanksgiving and prayers for continued health for little Noah
Diestelhorst.
Thanksgiving for the return of Rene Bruer to the Tallahassee area and
for his work in with Thrivent financial for Lutherans.
The Kovar family and all who mourn the loss of Dixie Kovar.
Thanksgiving for the blessings of family.
Thanksgiving for the life of Mrs. Gibbs, who passed away suddenly last
week.
...and that our prayers may be joined with the prayers of all God's
saints here on earth.
Yesterday I found a quote in a magazine that I really liked and needed
to hear. Maybe you need to hear it too.
"Do not depend on the hope of
results.When you are doing
the sort of
work you have taken on, you may have to
face the fact that your work will be apparently worthless and even
achieve no worth at all, if not perhaps, results opposite what you
expect...."
That's just the first part of the quote. Really,
it's the Law of God. God frequently leans over our shoulders and
says, "not good enough," "no, that won't get you into heaven," and "are
you kidding me? you think THAT is what I had in mind?"
All of the good works that you do aren't going to get you a seat in
heaven. They're worthless. In fact, they might even achieve
results opposite of what you might expect...especially if you start
relying on your works instead of God.
"....As you get used to this idea,
you will start more and more to
concentrate not on the results, but on the value, the rightness, the
truth of the work itself." Thomas
Merton
Jesus
gives us work that isn't dependent on results. He gives us work
that is tied to value, to rightness, and to truth. He gives us
work that is tied to Him. Whether that work is picking up garbage
or learning calculus, He ties our lives to His truth and His
righteousness and His value.
Keeping an eye on results is necessary. It's even good. But
keep your hope someplace else. Keep your hope in Jesus.
Concentrate on Him and you will begin to see the value, the rightness,
and the truth of your life.

Pastor Jay

Good Stuff
"If we lived in a state where virtue was profitable, common sense would
make us good, and greed would make us saintly. And we'd live
animals or angels in the happy land that needs no heroes. But
since in fact we see that avarice, anger, envy, pride, sloth, lust, and
stupidity commonly profit far beyond humility, chastity fortitude,
justice and though, and have to choose to be human at all, why then
perhaps we must stand fast a little even at the risk of being heroes."
Thomas More, in a letter to his daughter before he was executed for his
faith.
