Prayer List
(Please consider including the following in your prayer life this week)

That we may look for the right things from this Christmas and Advent seasons, the things from above.

Thanksgiving for Christ's coming peace where and when it grows amongst us now.

Guidance for all students who are writing papers and completing projects now before finals season - especially for Victoria Mwegoha.

Thanksgiving for the many people of this congregation who work so hard to keep it running.

Thanksgiving for Cheryl, the administrative assistant, whose work makes so much here at University Lutheran possible.

Thanksgiving for music which soothes the soul and speaks of Christ.

...and that our prayers may be joined with the prayers of all God's saints here on earth.

From Pastor Jay

Advent is a great time for series, and I really liked these short videos on the life of Mary.

Please watch this video, The Life of Mary: Unexpected.

How do you respond when the Lord surprises you with the unexpected?

We would like to think that we would say, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord, let it be to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38)  But how often do little "surprises" in your life send you into a tither?  How often does the slightest change in your routine make you mad, upset, or irritable?

Have you ever refused to do something because it was unexpected or different?

God called Mary to something that was wholly different and wholly unexpected.

He called you to something that is different and unexpected: salvation.  You have no reason to think that you deserve anything that He gives you, whether that is His forgiveness or His trust in you to do something for Him.

What might God be calling you to do that is unexpected?  Just as in the story of Mary, He will work out the details.  You can't do it by yourself.  He will work in you and through you just as long as you don't reject Him and what He wants.

In Christ,
Pastor Jay
p.s. please wait to watch the other 3 videos until next week.  If you would like these videos on CD, I can copy them for you, my license simply doesn't allow me to distribute them over the internet.

Really, I wasn't kidding

There really were sign up sheets out on the tables last Sunday.  Maybe you just had to check your calendars.  Here's a list of the stuff out on the tables:
